THE CLERK’S OFFICE IS NOW OPEN TO THE PUBLIC (effective June 8, 2020)
You will no longer need to make an appointment, however the front door of the building is locked. A security officer will meet you at the door and ask which office you would like to visit. You will have your temperature taken and you will go through a short health screening.
You will need to wear a mask to gain entry into the building. Please have all of your paperwork prepared before you arrive. And please bring all of the necessary items, i.e. driver’s license, CPL certificate, payment (we take debit and credit cards).
The County Clerk is an elected position, serving a four-year term. The clerk is responsible for issuing and the filing of marriage licenses, keeping records of births, deaths, assumed names, co-partnerships, concealed weapons permits, veterans discharges, notary bonds, filings for circuit court, circuit court jurors, and processing of passport applications. The clerk administers all election functions required by law, in addition to tabulating ballots and training all election inspectors within the county.

As of January 1, 2014, no county office will process passport applications. A list of local facilities that process passports can be obtained from the TRAVEL.STATE.GOV website.
